I was reminded of this article I was reading the other day about Michael Alig, the club kid that murdered his drug dealer and got caught because he couldn't keep his mouth shut.

Nostalgia seems to be the word of the week for me as I can remembered reading the blow-by-blow description at the time that it was actually happening. The whole club kid thing came to a head then it seems and the survivors of the whole thing seemed to have distanced themselves as far away from Alig at they can. One wrote a book. The other, a DJ rumoured to be involved with the infamous murderer, is still around but we don't really here that much about him in this neck of the woods anymore.

It seems that they are soon to release a movie based on the book, Disco Bloodbath, (feel like reading an excerpt?) that is to star Macauley Culkin and Seth Green. There is even an appearance by Marilyn Manson.

I don't know when it will be released but I will try to check it out. Hopefully Alig isn't benefitting by it at all. Just what I hate, people who break the law and then make money by writing a book about it...

Speaking of movies, I thought that I had read that Lars von Trier was working on his next one after Dancer in the Dark. Now, I cannot find anything about it. Has anyone heard the same thing? While doing a very shallow surf for info, I came upon this quote by Mr. von Trier and thought you might like to read it...

"Forget all the excuses - the 'childish fascination' or the 'all embracing humility' - for this is my confession: I, Lars Von Trier, am but a simple masturbator of the silver screen" L.V.T
its a weird day. haven't managed to shake the cold entirely.

went to an open house at my old high school last night and ended up having this weird dream that i would be graduating with the class of 2003 and while I wasn't the valedictorian, I made this rip-roaring inspirational speech about how, even though we had great teachers, that we could only gain knowledge through our own experiences and that I was proof that this is always true. no matter how old one gets.

so, i ended the day feeling a lot taller and a little more claustrophobic while walking down the hallways ( i suppose that i have grown some since then) and woke up today feeling a little congested and quite confused about why i had such a dream.

what was most strange was that over 20 years have passed since then. it seems like yesterday when i studied my brains out there. it was also a time when i walked up and down the halls getting made fun of by all of those jerks that thought they were better than me. the truth is, they didn't know anything. neither did i.

i've learned a lot since then... and hopefully will continue to learn lots...

have a great weekend!

I got my Haida Bucks t-shirt in the mail this week. I'm gonna put it on and sit outside Starbucks this weekend. I need to be amused and I really do not like that other coffee shop.

This story was sent to me by a friend today. It's about a village in Wales that will actually be hooked up to electricity for the first time ever... I was filled with wonder and dread at the same time.
So, can anyone explain to me why, besides greed, do people continue to feed animals with food that contains meat even when they are not meat-eating livestock? Especially, when those meat products are the same animals that they are feeding back to them. Are the people that make these decisions just stupid or what? Do they not learn from the slaughtering and burning of these creatures that happened in the past?

And why are we letting it happen?

Perhaps we were meant to destroy ourselves and I should just stop fighting it. It seems that lots of others have...
"Ezekiel! What are you and your two pumped up with steroid friends doing with that little houseplant?!" I yelled through the window.

They looked quite amused, really. Ezekiel and another were slightly ahead of the one with the small flowery plant. (I don't know what plant it was because I am not really the gardening type) They looked like they were there to protect the guy following - kind of like guards in football (the north american version) - and his little "pet". Or perhaps they were trying to camouflage this tough guy so that no one would see him being a sissy and carrying such a girlie thing down the road.

Where were they going? I don't know. In fact, I don't even know them. They were just these three guys who were walking down Fort Street in front of Pho Hoa restaurant last night. ( I was trying to cure my cold with soup) I didn't even know their names. Ezekiel had that written on his t-shirt...some brand, I suppose (I really am out of the loop, sometimes). They had obviously been to Brown's Florist down the street and picked it up.

Nevertheless, I found it amusing as I sat there staring out the window. Did anyone else see them? Or did they care? I love to watch people doing everyday things. It isn't an obsession, it's just something I do sometimes to pass time. Any one else do that? If you do, do you have any stories to share? Please do!
I was thinking about the new nametags they've asked us to wear around here. They're magnetic and I think that the heavy duty magnets are affecting my health. They must reverse my magnetic field or something.

It's day seven of this kick-ass cold and I still haven't managed to shake it entirely. The only advantage is that I could probably get a job at one of those phone-sex lines because of the husky nature of my voice. It's a little hard to talk dirty when you feel like crap!

As much as I hate the stuff, I must say that Buckley's Mixture is helping me a lot. It is foul-tasting but it works and that is all I can hope for. Raw garlic is great but too many people just freak out about the smell. In my mind, it is natural and people should just get over it. Does anyone out there have any other "cures" for colds?

I also wanted to comment about my previous entry about "murdering my family". I would never do that. I felt weakened by television and the partying that I became stir crazy. Besides, who else can put up with my whining when I am sick.

Anyway, that's it for now. Oh, except for this...

As much as I had hoped not to include anything like this on my site since the whole thing kind of ended, here is what Amnesty International has to say about the whole Iraq thing.

Congratulations to Claire at Toast and Coffee for her new posting! Too bad about the apartment viewing thing, though...
There are earthquakes everywhere it seems these days. If you happen to have experienced the earthquake in Japan yesterday, I would be interested in you sharing your thoughts... I found this story about earthquakes in Japan interesting.
Yeah. I know. I haven't written in a while.

Why? No, it isn't SARS and I haven't succumbed to Mad Cow Disease. I caught a brutal cold from a coworker and it's especially brutal. I've only just ventured back to work and people are glaring because I am still a bit visibly sick. I don't care though. I really had to get out of my house and get some sanity in my life. Any more daytime telly and any more partying noises from the s***heads across the street until all hours of the morning and I might have murdered my family. I'm better now though.

So, what's been happening?

Well, we had Mad Cow Disease reported in Canada. Here are a collection of news stories regarding the reports. Someone in the office says that in the UK it has been reported that there are 17 cases. A bit more than what we have heard of here. You be the judge.

As well, we are back on the SARS list. Does anyone else smell conspiracy? Is this retribution from the Americans for our non-involvement in the Iraq invasion?

Speaking of SARS, we have had news of an all-SARS station starting up in Singapore. Is it a comedy station? Will they be doing SARS stand-up?

During my time at home with this illness, I have read every magazine in the house. I had picked up the latest Q Magazine with the White Stripes on the cover and found this bit that claimed Samantha Fox had come out as a lesbian. Is this true? Or is it just another Anne Heche stunt? I suppose that naughty girls really do need love...

And, what's with Jewel? I saw her in a dance video the other day. Then I read that she is, while still sticking to her folksey messages, has put out a dance album. I must say that I don't mind the new direction. I found she was far to folk for me before. You can check out the video and other stuff here.

Well, my dear readers, I must go and eat my lunch now. My hearing is not quite 100% because my head is a little stuffed but I think that I will go to the Vietnamese soup restaurant and have some noodle soup after work and clean out my sinuses.

Catch you later...

Oh. And if anyone can help with ideas of how to get my noisy neighbours to refrain from partying every weekend until the early hours, I would love to hear from you. The more creative the idea, the better.

Thanks for reading!

Sunnydale is no more. Buffy has saved the day yet once again.

And what a cool ending it was! I always knew in my heart that girls of all shapes and sizes would save the world. That's just the way that it is. Girls rule! That's why the Spice Girls' whole "Girl Power" thing was so huge.

I must say that it was interesting that all of the demon or ex-demon characters didn't survive the whole thing. It was sad to see Anya bite the dust and Spike's end was so honourable. I suppose they served their purpose and then their existance ended. Go figure.

So, if one was to predict how all of their lives continued, what do you think will happen to the Scooby Gang? I'd love to hear what you have to say...

It appears there are a lot of searches happening about all things Buffy... I am having a lot of hits in respect to the show as it will be ending tonight. I wonder if anyone will be reading after the show is over and I have one less thing to write about...
You know, I used to have a huge crush on Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots. It must have been the skinny, rock star persona and "the good girl secretly admires the bad boy" syndrome that so many of us fall victim to.

However, I just read this and think that he's just never going to learn. And so, I think I should stop wasting my time.

At least now I can focus my crush on Marilyn Manson. That is when I am not daydreaming about Keanu...

It's Saturday, and we are well into the long weekend we get this weekend and the weather has been pretty damned strange. They were promising thunderstorms which is quite a rarity around these parts and it totally passed by. Seattle got it and we did not. However, we did get some hail today. I hope the weather gets better so that we can have a good day for the parade....

About 45 minutes ago, I got a call from the friend (see Tuesday, May 13, 2003) that I had been dreaming about for a week or so. He's only just come back into town from the cruise ship stint...

I must have just been having psychic premonitions or something! This happens to me a lot but I am just wondering why my dreams about Keanu Reeves don't get answered like that!

Have a great weekend all!
Okay. So I decided to change the name of my blog so any of you who have links might want to change it if you have coffin attached to it. I don't think that many people got the joke anyway.
Okay. So I am just shattered today! I can hardly keep my eyes open.

Why? Perhaps I am like Neo in the Matrix and am not sleeping because of my dreams. However, I just can't remember them this morning.

So, I watched "Matrix Reloaded" last night and I just don't know. Everytime I see a Matrix film, I have an overwhelming urge to learn Kung-fu and go out and kick people's butts. I suppose I should just stick with the yoga for now. At the most, I should find myself a personal trainer and start going to the gym.

I wasn't at all disappointed with the film although... well, I won't give it away... the ending wasn't what I had expected. I found this film had more of a human feel to it but I suppose that will all come out in the wash. And the costuming was awesome!

That is all that I will say. Go and see the film.

Guess where I'm going tonight and what I will be doing? Look here to find out!

I never know how to answer these things, however this quiz has deemed me...

The Hipster Intellecticus: call himself what he will (beatnik, philosophy major, liberal arts student), he's still hip and he still digs on Kerouac.

I may be a little behind the times, but after sharing my thoughts about FHM magazine with a male coworker, it came to my attention that Walmart is forcing it's morals on others by refusing to sell some men's periodicals because they were too racy. I searched it out on Google and found this entry on blogcritics. One may simply say that you could just go somewhere else to buy the mags but this is more than that.

Walmart has a large consumer group attached to it and it could really hurt sales of these magazines. Personally, I do not shop at this store or Costco or any of the others because of personal reasons. These mega-stores where you can get everything have greatly contributed to the disappearance of the local businesses that kept the money in the regions and provided local service. Unfortunately, these small businesses cannot compete with the low, bulk buying prices of the larger multinationals. They encourage people to pay "discounted" prices for inferior goods thus creating this "buy cheap even though it will break down and then you'll just have to buy a new one"-mentality instead of encouraging people to buy quality goods that aren't so disposable. What kind of morality encourages people to ignore the good of the planet and just buy the stuff that ends up polluting the world we live in?

With that said, I want to say that if you like the magazines (or anything else that they won't sell for moral reasons) go to the local level and buy them. Help out those people who are concerned with the community that they live in!

Late addition! I know I have appeared to be rather annoyed by the whole media-inflamed SARS thing lately, but here is yet another thing that makes me angry. Reuters has printed this article based on the WHO comment about traffic death. It seems to me that car accidents cause so much more death than SARS will and, yet, we do little about it! Why aren't we looking into ways of preventing these deaths? Why aren't we lowering our dependence on automobiles? When will we learn?
There used to be a family of quail living in the rhubarb patch behind my house. I hadn't seem them for quite some time until this past weekend when I ran into a couple of them while hanging my wash out on the line. I saw them again yesterday in the park behind my house when I returned from Sabri Indian restaurant (in time to watch the second to last episode of Buffy)

The thing I remember most about this family of quail is that they looked like the family of birds that ran around at the beginning of the Partridge Family series, although they aren't as colourful as the ones on the telly. I don't think that they live in the rhubarb patch anymore but they have come back. It is definitely a good sign!

While at the restaurant last night, I read the June 2003 FHM Magazine because there was a Girls of Buffy Tribute. Allyson Hannigan even did a photo spread. Read her article here.

Actually, I had intended not to mention the Buffy stuff but to link to some quirky items that I found on the pages of FHM. I always find these magazines a warped sense of entertainment. What do you think of these items?

Talk about flying the friendly skies. Welcome to Ecstasky Airlines! The flight attendants come with their own personal flotation devices and excellent in-flight services and entertainment.

Also, there is a new awareness campaign by the National Prostrate Cancer Coalition to promote prostrate wellness in the US. Check out the new toy to aid in this health campaign!

In other news, I am thinking about changing my blog name but haven't had the time to do this yet. I will keep you posted!

Have a great day!

It's been a strange day...

About six or seven months ago, the stapler from the desk in my office went missing. It had been labelled with my name because things here go missing quite often and so I knew that it had gone astray. So, I ordered a new one from the stationery company that we deal with, all the time concerned that I got one of a decent quality but that would not be that expensive. Since that time, the new one has come and gone.

Today, however, out of the blue, the one that had originally gone missing suddenly appeared at the photocopy machine in the hall. My supervisor found it and brought it to my desk. She was as perplexed as I had been (and still am) about this kind of Bermuda Triangle incident...

Where do missing office supplies go?
For the last couple of days, my dreams have been monopolized by this same guy that I know...

It all came together yesterday when I received a brochure from Princess Cruise Lines and I found a common thread to my recent dream patterns. You see, this guy is currently working on Princess Cruises in South America.

I haven't heard from him in a while so I am guessing that is why he has come up so often in my thoughts. If you happen to be cruising on Princess (probably the Royal Princess) in South America in the next month or so, and you happen to run into a guy named Clint from Canada, please ask him to check his email. Even his postcards have died off.

I have toyed with the idea of going on a cruise but it seems so generic... like those student tour trips through Europe that were popular. I have always liked to venture out on my own and go to places that tourists avoid. I guess that I don't like the whole group thing. Have you ever been on one?

Does anyone have any good holiday stories to share? It's getting to that time of year, don't you think?

Wow! You might want to think again about buying meat at the supermarket. Read why here!
I don't know. I am sure that one of these days I should just grow up and start listening to music that is suitable for my age. But I am not ready for the new age or country music bandwagon yet. I still wanna' have fun.

That is why I am not surprised that I am really like the song Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. There is something cool about an album that boasts that there were no computers used in the production. It is bare bones and very, very cool!

It reminds me vaguely of my alternative days when the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Bauhaus, Skinny Puppy and Japan were my favourite bands. Sure. I did venture into the pop scene and was an avid Duran Duran listener but the others all held a piece of my dark heart.

Oh. And the end of the Buffy saga continues. Gunnella of Langavitleysa Gunnellu commented that there was to be a breakthrough on the lesbian front by having a love scene between Willow and her new girlfriend. After watching it, I have to say that if that was a breakthrough scene, we really have a long way to go with this kind of thing. I find it much more shocking that they would show bad girl Faith do it with the principal! Personally, I am delighted to see multi-racial "love" scenes more in the public eye but I think that it is quite a move for American telly. After all, they still have got a long way to go but I suppose that it is a start. The same goes for the lesbian scene...

Well, had best go. Gotta go to yoga class!

It's always nice to make new friends. Today, I have added Radmila of My Two Second Shelf life to my list. Radmila is cool!
Have you ever wondered why men have breasts? Read about it here!
It's magazine week...

Last week, I picked up a copy of my favourite photography magazine, Practical Photography. It had loads of interesting articles as well as a feature on piers. When I saw some photos from Brighton, I was wondering if this had been the same pier that Yummy Wakame had mentioned in her entry of March 28... I will have to look it up and let you know... It really is a brilliant magazine! All budding photographers should check it out if they haven't already!

I broke down yesterday at the supermarket and bought the new issue of GQ magazine. It didn't hurt that it had Keanu Reeves on the cover but it also had an article about Missy Elliot and Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens). I don't usually read this magazine but with so many interesting articles, who could lose? Oh, and there is also an article on Ashton Kutcher... {And don't miss checking out the response of Yusuf on the GQ article on his official site}

On the other hand, I bought the newest Utne Reader. I haven't had time to pick it up yet as I am still reading the more glossy of the two.

Life is good for the moment...
I am Domo-kun! Hear me roar!!!!

You are Domo Kun!

It's the time of year that people begin to think about getting their bicycles out once again because the weather is getting better. My advice is to get it back in working order before you start to ride again. Also, you should check the tires to see if there is enough air in them... Bicycle maintenance is important!

Wow! Those New Yorkers certainly have guts! Read about the new scam that's happening there.

We have the same law here in Victoria but I haven't heard about this happening here. I wonder what the difference is?
